Winter Park was ready to become a four-season destination.
The Town of Winter Park set out to shed its historic reliance on winter tourism, and Hideaway Park's aging playground stood in the way of that vision. Fisk Lawnscapes was brought in to reimagine it as a signature community asset that draws residents and visitors year-round, anchoring the park's larger event and recreation area in time for the summer concert season.
This playground could only exist in Winter Park.
Rather than install a standard playground, the team designed an experience unique to the town. Custom play features draw on Winter Park's identity and history, including elements inspired by the Moffat Tunnel, a custom bear, and the surrounding mountain landscape. The result is a 32-foot-tall mountain play structure with separate play zones for ages 2 to 5 and 5 to 12, seamlessly woven into the park's music stage, skate park, and gathering spaces.
The seasons raced against the crew, and the ground held a surprise.
Building at 9,000 feet came with a narrow, unpredictable construction window shaped by snowfall and frozen ground, all against a firm deadline tied to the Town's summer events. Fisk Lawnscapes kept the project on track with ground-warming equipment, snow-removal readiness, and constant scheduling adjustments.
Mid-excavation, crews uncovered concrete footings from a 1960s-era fire station buried beneath the site. With custom playground equipment already en route from Canada on a fixed delivery date, the team re-sequenced the work, brought in additional excavation and trucking, and adjusted the drainage design around the newly discovered structures, without losing time.
Throughout construction, the adjacent skate park, music stage, and pedestrian routes stayed open. Fisk Lawnscapes managed public safety and daily operations by containing the work zone and prioritizing site cleanup at every stage.
The ribbon cut, and the park finally felt like home.
Today, Hideaway Park stands as a landmark investment in Winter Park's identity, a gateway feature seen by millions of visitors traveling toward Rocky Mountain National Park each year.
Hideaway Park opened in time for its June 18 ribbon-cutting, drawing hundreds of community members on day one. The finished space combines custom play equipment, mountain-inspired surfacing, an artificial turf play mound with tunnel, landscaping, fencing, and premium site furnishings into one cohesive destination.
Town leadership and Public Works staff praised both the finished result and the process itself, calling out the team's communication and professionalism throughout.
